Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has sought comments and suggestions from stakeholders to promote the indigenous manufacture of critical items used in the power sector, which are currently imported.
CEA has prepared a daft list of nearly 30 of such critical items that are currently being imported. This list also includes support required by manufacturers for the indigenous production of these items.
The list has been prepared in consultation with few stakeholders, including industry body IEEMA (Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association).
Some of the items contained in the list are as follows, and the full list of available on CEA’s official website:
China features as an important source for most of the components mentioned in the list, which also features other countries like Germany, Korea, Spain, France, Japan, etc.
In this context, comments/suggestions and inputs are being sought from all stakeholders to decide on prioritization of items mentioned in the list. Stakeholders can also suggest other critical items currently imported, indicating the type of support required for indigenization.
CEA has indicated that it would be better if the desired support level be clearly quantified in terms of percentage or types of financial incentives (e.g. interest subvention, grant, etc) and subsidies.
CEA expects inputs to be sent to ce-rndcea@nic.in latest by June 20, 2025.
