Energy technology company Kimbal Pvt Ltd has announced the establishment of its Australia and New Zealand headquarters in Victoria, marking a significant milestone in the company’s international expansion and reinforcing the growing economic partnership between India and Australia.

The investment positions Victoria as Kimbal’s regional hub for delivering next-generation smart grid technologies, such as edge intelligence, that will support utilities in modernizing electricity networks, integrating distributed energy resources, and accelerating the clean energy transition.

The ANZ headquarters is expected to create highly skilled jobs over the next three years, bringing global expertise in smart grid technologies while strengthening Victoria’s position as a center for energy innovation and advanced technology investment.

End-to-end AMI solutions

Founded in 2011, Kimbal has emerged as one of the world’s leading providers of end-to-end AMI solutions, with more than 12 million smart metering endpoints deployed to date. The company’s integrated product portfolio spans smart electricity meters, RF-mesh connectivity suite, Head-End Systems (HES), edge intelligence, energy management solution, and AI-enabled cloud platforms, enabling utilities to build more resilient, efficient, and consumer-centric energy networks. The company’s expansion into Australia reflects the country’s increasing focus on digital infrastructure to support renewable energy integration, electric vehicles, distributed storage, and a more dynamic electricity grid.

Ideal ecosystem

Commenting on the announcement, Dhiren Parmar, Country Head – Australia and New Zealand, Kimbal, said: Australia is one of the world’s most progressive energy markets, and Victoria offers the ideal ecosystem for innovation, collaboration and long-term growth. Our experience in delivering large-scale smart metering infrastructure across dynamic geographies positions us to support utilities in building more intelligent, resilient and sustainable electricity networks. Establishing our Australia and New Zealand headquarters in Victoria represents a long-term commitment to the country and reflects our confidence in the strength of the India-Australia partnership.”

Closer cooperation

Kimbal’s regional presence will enable closer collaboration with utilities, energy retailers and ecosystem partners across Australia and New Zealand, supporting the deployment of intelligent grid technologies that enhance network visibility, improve operational efficiency and empower consumers with greater control over their energy usage. The investment also aligns with Victoria’s ambitions to lead the transition towards a digitally enabled, low-carbon energy future while attracting high-value technology investment and creating skilled employment opportunities.
