DICABS Nextgen Special Alloys commissions second rod mill at Vadodara facility

DICABS Nextgen Special Alloys Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Diamond Power Infrastructure Ltd (DIPL), has commissioned the second rod mill at its Vadodara facility in Gujarat.

In a stock exchange notification, DPIL said that the second fully-integrated rod mill at the facility started commercial production on September 29, 2025.

This mill is dedicated to manufacturing next-generation AL59 wire rods, which are advanced aluminum-based alloys developed as high-efficiency conductors for power transmission.

The installed production capacity of this second rod mill this unit is 2,500 tonnes per month, translating to 30,000 tonnes per year. It was commissioned with capital outlay of Rs.20 crore, DIPL said.

It may be recalled that in March this year, DIPL had announced the commencement of commercial production of the first such rod mill of capacity 2,400 tonnes per month, located at a greenfield facility set up its wholly-owned subsidiary DICABS Nextgen Special Alloys Pvt Ltd.

It was then disclosed that the new facility would have three rod mills, with a combined capacity of 7,500 tonnes per month, to be put up with an investment of Rs.55 crore. With two now operational, only the third rod mill remains to be commissioned.

DIPL, on its own, has one rod mill with capacity 1,200 tonnes month. With two rod mills now commissioned by its subsidiary DICABS Nextgen Special Alloys, the total available capacity for wire rods has now risen to 6,100 tonnes per month, or 73,200 tonnes per year. (See table)

This has significantly enhanced the company’s overall conductor production capabilities and top line, DIPL said.

What are AL59 conductors?

AL59 conductors refer to a type of aluminium conductors made from “Aluminium Alloy 1350” that is also referred to as “1350-H19”.

AL59 conductors are considered superior to standard conductors in certain applications due to their unique properties, mainly tensile strength. AL59 conductors are often used in high-voltage power lines and other applications where a strong, durable, and lightweight conductor is needed. The strength-to-weight ratio makes AL59 ideal for long-distance transmission lines that require high mechanical strength but low weight.
