Tata Power commissions 574-ckm of 765kV lines in Uttar Pradesh, part of intrastate-TBCB project

Tata Power has successfully commissioned two critical 765kV transmission corridors in Uttar Pradesh, marking a major step in strengthening the northern region’s power transmission network and improving grid reliability across the state.

In a release, Tata Power said that the newly commissioned corridors — Mainpuri–Bara (380 ckm) and Mainpuri–Unnao (194 ckm) have been developed under the South East UP Power Transmission Company Ltd (SEUPPTCL) project and form part of Tata Power’s expanding national transmission portfolio.

Together, the lines form a critical backbone for reliable power flow within Uttar Pradesh and across the northern grid.

The project, acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Ltd, a joint venture led by Tata Power, ICICI Bank and global investors, is part of the resolution of previously stressed power assets.

With the commissioning of these two 765kV corridors, Tata Power now has 5,312 ckm of transmission lines operational, with an additional 1,997 ckm under construction.

Once operational, the two corridors will facilitate the evacuation of over 3,000 MW of thermal power generated within the state, significantly improving grid stability and supporting Uttar Pradesh’s long-term energy security objectives

The execution of the project involved complex engineering and large-scale deployment of resources. Construction required over 42,000 tonnes of tower steel, 6,900 km of conductor stringing, and the completion of more than 100 major crossings, including railway lines, rivers and existing transmission corridors. The lines also traverse forest stretches and were built in strict compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.

Despite these challenges, the project was delivered in line with Tata Power’s benchmarks for operational excellence, quality execution and stringent safety standards, reinforcing the company’s credentials as a leading transmission infrastructure developer.

More elements

According to information available with tndindia.com, the SEUPPTCL project has one more line – a 400kV double-circuit line running 168 ckm. This is a LILO of one circuit of the 400kV Tanda-Basti line, at the Gonda (AIS) substation. This line is understood to be in final stages of completion. The 400/220kV, 2×315 MVA Gonda substation, also part of the overall project, is complete and will be charged once the connecting 400kV LILO is commissioned. The under-construction LILO will effectively comprise two 400kV single-circuit lines – Tanda-Gonda and Basti-Gonda.

The SEUPPTCL project was originally awarded to Spanish developer Isolux Corsan and was formally acquired by Resurgent Power in September 2022, under a stressed asset resolution plan approved by NCLT, Allahabad bench. (Read full story)
