BHEL Secures Mega Equipment Orders from Adani Power for Four 2x800 MW Supercritical Projects Valued up to ₹28,000 Crore

As per the company’s disclosure, state-run engineering and power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced that it has secured a landmark set of contracts from Adani Power Limited for four thermal power projects, each configured with a capacity of 2×800 MW. The contracts collectively represent 6,400 MW of supercritical power generation capacity.

According to the regulatory disclosure, each of the four separate contracts carries an individual consideration ranging between ₹5,000 crore and ₹7,000 crore excluding GST, translating into a cumulative order value pegged between ₹20,000 crore and ₹28,000 crore.

The scope of work across all four packages encompasses the design, engineering, manufacturing, and supply of core BTG equipment-boilers, turbines, and generators-along with associated plant auxiliaries and agreed technical services. Execution timelines for the four multi-unit installations will be aligned progressively with the project readiness and site deployment requirements established by Adani Power.

The mega order win significantly reinforces BHEL’s domestic order book and consolidates its position as the primary indigenous supplier for India’s renewed supercritical thermal capacity expansion. The development comes amid the Ministry of Power’s strategic push to add over 80 GW of thermal baseload capacity over the next decade to maintain system inertia, prevent grid deficits, and complement intermittent renewable energy integration.

BHEL confirmed that the transactions are purely domestic and executed strictly on an arm’s length basis. The engineering major also noted that neither its promoter nor promoter group entities hold any financial or operational interest in Adani Power Limited, nor do the contracts fall under related-party transactions.
