Bajel Projects has announced the winning of a major transmission line order from Beawar-Mandsaur Transmission Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL).

In a release, Bajel Projects said that the order valued at Rs.586.28 crore (excluding taxes) and to be completed in 23 months, is for “Transmission Line Package TL01 for 765kV double-circuit Beawar – Mandsaur Pooling Station (PS) Transmission Line – Part 1”.

This project is part of the interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme termed as “Transmission System for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph‐IV (Part‐2: 5.5GW) (Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex) Part‐D” that PGCIL won under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route, and which is being developed through project SPV “Beawar-Mandsaur Transmission Ltd.”

Project Background

According to information available with T&D India but not contained in the release by Bajel Projects, PGCIL was awarded the letter of intent for developing the said ISTS scheme by bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd, on May 9, 2024. However, the project SPV has yet to be formally transferred to PGCIL.

The overall project is estimated to cost Rs.2,227 crore and has an envisaged completion period of 24 months.

A major component of the project is a 765kV double-circuit line, running 260 route km, from Beawar to Mandsaur Pooling Station, straddling Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The subject contract awarded to Bajel Projects is part of this overall transmission line.

It may be mentioned that the overall project “Transmission System for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph‐IV (Part‐2: 5.5GW) (Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex)” has been divided into 9 parts – denoted as Part A, B, C, D, E, FI & F2 (combined), G, H1 and H2. All parts except H2 will be developed using the TBCB route; H2 will be taken up under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) mode. Also, Part G has been deferred owing to potential ecological concerns related to GIB (Great Indian Bustard) inhabitation.

Significantly, of the seven TBCB components – Part A, B, C, D, E, FI & F2 (combined) and H1 – PGCIL has won four, namely Part B, Part C, Part D and Part E. These are housed respectively under project SPVs Sirohi Transmission Ltd, Rajasthan IV C Power Transmission Ltd, Beawar-Mandsaur Transmission Ltd and Rajasthan IV E Power Transmission Ltd. The winners of Part A, Part F1 & F2 (combined) and Part H1 are not yet officially available.
