Diamond Power Infrastructure diversifies into copper-conductor cables

Diamond Power Infrastructure Ltd (DPIL) has diversified into copper-conductor cables with the commissioning of a new line at its integrated manufacturing plant at Savli in Gujarat.

In a release, DIPL, owner of the “DICABS” brand of cables and conductors, said that it has commissioned a dedicated copper wire drawing and copper cable manufacturing line at its integrated manufacturing complex at Vadadala, Savli, Vadodara, Gujarat. Commercial production at the line has commenced, the release added.

With this, Diamond Power has extended its cables portfolio from aluminium-conductor cables to copper-conductor cables.

The line has an installed capacity of 1,500 tonnes of copper cables per month and is built for cables used in applications with high power intensity — principally data centers and power plants, along with other heavy industrial installations where very high currents must be carried within constrained cable routes.

From Al-cable to Cu-cable

The commissioning marks Diamond Power’s entry into the copper cable segment. Until now, the Company has primarily focused on manufacturing aluminium-based cables and conductors. The addition of copper cables will enable the Company to expand its product portfolio and cater to the broader cable requirements of its existing customers across both aluminium and copper applications, thereby strengthening its market presence and customer engagement.

Importantly, the facility integrates copper wire drawing in-house: copper conductor will be drawn from wire rod within the company’s own plant and taken through to the finished cable, giving Diamond Power direct control over conductor quality, consistency and cost across the copper range, the release noted.

Strategic entry

According to Kavish Shah, Vice President, Corporate Strategy, Diamond Power Infrastructure Ltd, “Our customers have been asking us for a single source across both aluminium and copper. Until now we could serve only a part of that requirement. With this line we can offer the complete cable package — and we are entering copper at the point where demand is strongest and most demanding, in data centres and power plants. This is a deliberate step up the value chain: higher specification, higher realisation, and a segment where quality and delivery reliability decide the order. It also sits naturally alongside the capability we have built in medium and extra-high voltage cables.”
