KEC International lands order for HVDC line

KEC International Ltd has announced the winning of an order to build HVDC transmission lines for a private developer.

In a release, KEC International Ltd said that it has won an order for building ±500kV HVDC lines for a reputed private developer in western India.

Though KEC did not disclose the entity placing the order, it strongly appears that the order relates to the ISTS-TBCB project housed under “KPS III HVDC Transmission Ltd,” a subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, and taking shape in Gujarat.

The project is officially termed as “Transmission system for evacuation of power from potential RE zone in Khavda area of Gujarat under Phase V (8 GW), Part C.”

The HVDC line associated with the KPS III project is a ±500kV HVDC bipole line between the KPS3 HVDC terminal and the South Olpad HVDC terminal. [KPS3 is Khavda Pooling Station-3]. The line with dedicated metallic return (DMR) is designed to evacuate 2,500 MW and has a total length of 1,157 ckm. [It is likely that the overall line will be awarded in multiple packages.]

The KEC order for HVDC lines is part of a series of orders, valued at Rs.1,002 crore, across several business verticals – power T&D, renewables, transportation, and cables & conductors.

In the power T&D segment, KEC has landed other orders like 132kV cabling works from a steel producer in eastern India, and supply of transmission hardware to the Americas.

According to Vimal Kejriwal, MD & CEO, KEC International Ltd, “We are pleased with the new order wins across businesses. The prestigious HVDC order has further strengthened our India T&D order book, especially in the HVDC space. Our renewables business has expanded its presence in the Wind Energy segment with a repeat order from an existing customer.”

Editor’s Note: The possibility of KEC’s HVDC line order relating to Adani Energy Solutions’ ISTS project is based on an independent internal assessment by tndindia.com. Neither KEC International Ltd nor Adani Energy Solutions Ltd has provided any confirmation.
