NTPC has announced that more capacity at its Ramagundum floating solar plant in Telangana has achieved commercial operation.

In a stock exchange communication, NTPC said that the third part of 42.5 mw capacity of the 100-mw floating solar plant started commercial operations on March 24, 2022.

Though the communication did not provide more details, T&D India estimates that the total capacity of the floating solar power plant has now reached 80 mw. NTPC had announced that the first part capacity of 17.5 mw had started commercial operations in November 2021, followed by the second part of 20 mw in December 2021.

The Ramagundam floating solar power plant is coming up in the premises of NTPC’s Ramagundam thermal power plant in Telangana. The solar project, estimated to cost over Rs.400 crore, will be spread over an area of 425 acres of the water reservoir associated with the thermal power plant.

With the third part now starting commercial operations, the standalone alone installed capacity of NTPC has become 54,494.68 mw, which is also equal to the commercial capacity.

Further, the installed and commercial capacity of NTPC Group has become 68,609.68 mw and 67,949.68 mw, respectively. NTPC Group stands for NTPC Ltd and its subsidiaries/joint ventures.

The difference between installed and commercial capacity represents that part of the installed capacity that has not started commercial operations.
