Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has announced the successful commissioning of an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme in Haryana.
In a very brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that the project called “Augmentation of ISTS for interconnection of HVPNL transmission schemes” was commissioned effective October 6, 2024, for which Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO or date of commercial operations) was received on December 10, 2024. No further information was provided in the filing by PGCIL. [HVPNL: Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd is the state transmission utility of Haryana.]
Based on official information available, is reliably learnt that the newly-commissioned ISTS scheme was allotted to PGCIL under the regulatory tariff mechanism (RTM) route.
In its board meeting of February 24, 2023, PGCIL accorded investment approval to the scheme, which was then expected to cost Rs.107.77 crore. The scheme was scheduled to be commissioned progressively from February 2024 to July 2024.
According to recent reports of Central Electricity Authority (CEA), this ISTS-RTM scheme involved, among other things, augmentation of transformation capacity of some substations owned by PGCIL, in Haryana.
The Jind substation was augmented by the addition of the third interconnecting transformer (ICT) of 1×500 MVA, 400/220kV. Similarly, a 1×500 MVA, 400/220kV ICT, the third, was put up at the Bahadurgarh substation. Four 220kV line bays were installed at the Bahadurgarh substation and three such were added to the Sonepat substation of PGCIL.
The overall objective of the ISTS scheme was to provide a “N-1” compliant system, as well as 220kV line bays for interconnection with HVPNL transmission schemes at various ISTS substations.
