PGCIL commissions “NERSS-XII” — interstate scheme in northeast

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) announced that it has commissioned an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme called “North Eastern Region Strengthening Scheme – XII (NERSS-XII).”

In a brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that NERSS-XII was commissioned on November 2, 2024, and the notification for commercial operation (date of commercial operation) was received on November 23, 2024.

According to information available with T&D India, PGCIL was awarded NERSS-XII under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) modality in FY21.

In May 2021, the board of directors of PGCIL had approved investment of Rs.576.42 crore towards NERSS-XII. The project was scheduled to commission progressively by March 2023.

It is further learnt that NERSS-XII involved re-conductoring of several existing transmission lines spread over Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, etc.

The key project components of NERSS-XII covered re-conductoring of:

  • 400kV double-circuit Siliguri – Bongaigaon line with twin HTLS conductor
  • 220kV double-circuit Alipurduar – Salakati with single HTLS conductor
  • 220kV double-circuit BTPS – Salakati 220kV with single HTLS conductor
  • 132kV single-circuit Dimapur–Imphal with single HTLS conductor
  • 132kV single-circuit Loktak–Jiribam with single HTLS conductor

 

In FY21 itself, according to information available with T&D India, PGCIL was awarded few other components of the overall North Eastern Region Strengthening Scheme, namely NERSS-XI, NERSS-XIII and NERSS-XIV.
