Schneider Electric Infrastructure Ltd (SEIL) has planned a major expansion in manufacturing capacity of circuit breakers.
This expansion is part of an overall investment plan of around Rs.200 crore that includes capacity expansion of switchgear panels as well.
According to an investor presentation, SEIL will be investing Rs.90.60 crore in setting up a new circuit breaker plant at Kolkata. This new plant, which is expected to commission within FY27 (before 31 March 2027) will have breaker manufacturing capacity of 40,000 units per year.
This will take SEIL’s total breaker capacity to 45,000 units per year, which is as astounding nine times its existing capacity of 50,000 units.
It is further learnt that the new plant will manufacture new-generation breakers meant to serve both the domestic and international markets.
The switchgear panel capacity expansion will take place at the existing Vadodara plant in Gujarat. The present capacity of 8,000 panels per year will be enhanced by 6,000 panels, taking the final capacity to 14,000 panels per year. This expansion plant, with an outlay of Rs.110.20 crore, will be commissioned during FY27.
Both the expansion plans will be financed largely through internal accruals, it is learnt.
SEIL is also expected to commission capacity expansion at its transformer manufacturing facility at Vadodara in Gujarat, by March 2026. With an outlay of Rs.13.6 crore, the plan is to expand capacity by 1,500 MVA, to reach 7,000 MVA per year, with a view to meeting growing market demand.
During FY25, Schneider Electric Infrastructure Ltd recorded an order inflow of Rs.2,693 crore that was 13.4 per cent higher than Rs.2,375 crore. As of March 31, 2025, SEIL’s order backlog stood at Rs.1,253 crore.
