SJVN Ltd has flagged off the dispatch of a turbine-generator to be deployed at the company’s upcoming power project at Buxar in Bihar.

In a release, SJVN said that the turbine-generator will be deployed at Unit-1 of the 2×660-mw Buxar thermal power project.

The coal-fired power generation plant, designed on supercritical parameters, is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd.

SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Nand Lal Sharma virtually flagged off the journey of the turbine-generator from Hazira in Gujarat to the project site in Bihar. Sushil Kumar Sharma, Director (Electrical), SJVN, was present at the Hazira site of Larsen & Toubro at the time of flag off.

Weighing 500 tonnes, the turbine-generator is expected to reach the project site by the first week of March 2022, after sailing through the sea and then River Ganga.

Unit-1 of the Buxar thermal power plant is scheduled for commissioning by June 2023. The second unit, according to information available, is likely to turn operational by June 2024. It may be recalled that during November 2021, project work on Unit-2 of the Buxar thermal power plant was inaugurated at the hands of the company’s CMD, Nand Lal Sharma, in a virtual function.

The Buxar power plant, originally to be implemented by the Bihar state government, was handed over to SJVN Ltd, and is currently the only thermal power project in the company’s portfolio that is dominated by hydropower, solar and wind power projects.

The foundation stone for the Buxar power plant was laid on March 9, 2019, at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A project critical in meeting Bihar’s power requirements is being continuously monitored by the Union power ministry. It is learnt that at least 85 per cent of the electricity generated by the Buxar plant will be allocated to home state Bihar.
