The smart meter population of Tata Power, as a group, has crossed the 6.5-lakh milestone.

In a release discussing the company’s performance in Q1 of FY24, Tata Power said that its overall smart meter population – across all its power distribution areas covering Mumbai, Delhi and Odisha – crossed the 6,50,000-mark during the quarter under review.

While Tata Power’s Mumbai distribution business falls directly under Tata Power, it operates through PPP joint ventures in Delhi and Odisha.

During Q1 of FY24, Tata Power also assumed the new role of an AMISP (advanced metering infrastructure service provider) winning a smart metering order valued at Rs.1,744 crore from Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Ltd (CSPDCL), under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

Growth opportunities in T&D

Commenting on the company’s performance in Q1 of FY24, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, said, “We have planned nearly Rs.12,000 crore of capex for the current financial year that would help us lead the green energy transition and in the growth opportunities in the transmission and distribution business.”

Odisha discoms

Tata Power is a distribution licensee in Odisha and serves the entire state through four discoms – TP Central Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPCODL), TP Southern Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPSODL), TP Western Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPWODL) and TP Northern Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPNODL).

Tata Power had installed 1.86 lakh smart meters across all the four Odisha discoms, as of June 30, 2023.  It had also replaced over 23 lakh legacy meters across the four discoms, as of given date.

The performance Tata Power’s Odisha discoms is summarized below:
