Torrent Power recorded lower T&D losses in its licensed and franchised power distribution business during the first quarter (Q1: April to June) of FY26.
According to an investor presentation filed on stock exchanges by Torrent Power, the T&D losses across all its seven licensed and franchised areas were either maintained or were lower in Q1FY26, when compared to those in Q1FY25.
In its biggest licensed area – Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar in Gujarat – T&D losses dropped significantly to 7.9 per cent in Q1FY26 from 9.9 per cent in Q1FY25. In UT of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (DNH&DD), such losses were maintained at 1.7 per cent.

According to calculations made by T&D India, the consolidated T&D losses of Torrent Power across all its seven operational areas were lower at 6.5 per cent in Q1FY26 as against 7.5 per cent in Q1FY25. The consolidated T&D loss has been worked out as a weighted average of individual figures, with weights assigned to electricity purchase.
While losses were lower, revenues from the distribution losses were impacted by the sheer drop in overall volume of the power distribution business. During Q1FY26, total electricity purchase across Torrent Power’s licensed and franchised areas dropped – albeit marginally by 0.11 per cent — from 8,912 MU in Q1FY25 to 8,902 MU in Q1FY26.
In the Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar area, power purchase fell significantly by 3.7 per cent to 2,780 MU in Q1FY26 from 2,886 MU in Q1FY25. Similar was the case in Surat where the metric was by 4.7 per cent lower in Q1FY26.
Power demand in Gujarat is believed to have fallen in Q1FY26, largely owing to early arrivals of monsoons. According to provisional figures released by Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the energy requirement in Gujarat during June 2025, at 13,460 MU, was 6 per cent lower than 14,324 MU in June 2024. Similar was the case in May 2025 when energy requirement was 5.3 per cent lower in Gujarat. In April 2025, however, Gujarat’s energy requirement stood 5.7 per cent higher at 14,812 MU than 14,015 MU in April 2024. During Q1FY26 as a whole, Gujarat’s overall energy requirement was nearly 2 per cent lower year-on-year, CEA statistics suggest. [MU = million units = million kwh = Gwh]
