Universal Cables plans technical upgrade of Satna EHV cable plant

Universal Cables Ltd has proposed to modernize its extra high voltage (EHV) cable plant in Madhya Pradesh.

In its meeting held on May 23, 2026, the board of directors of Universal Cables Ltd approved an investment of Rs.73 crore to modernize and technologically upgrade the company’s EHV cable plant at Satna in Madhya Pradesh.

While this upgrade will not enhance the physical production capacity, it will help the EHV cable facility to be fully equipped to manufacture and sell products of a wide variety of domestic and international specifications, in order to achieve optimum capacity utilization.

The upgrade plan has an overall aim of overcoming challenges of evolving international quality, safety and environmental standards, Universal Cables said in a statement.

Ongoing capacity expansion slightly delayed

The company’s ongoing capacity expansion project, with a total outlay of around Rs.550 crore has witnessed slight delay, Universal Cables said. This expansion plan, taking place at Satna, aims at augmenting production capacity of medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) cables.

Out of the four CCV (continuous catenary vulcanization) lines planned to augment the manufacturing capacity of MV and HV cables, two CCV lines, along with associated process machinery, were commissioned by September 2026 and achieved near maximum capacity utilization during Q3 (October to December) of FY26.

The commissioning of the remaining two CCV Lines along with balancing process machinery observed minor delays and are now expected to be commissioned by end of August, 2026 and September, 2026 respectively, the company said.

Expansion completed

During FY26, Universal Cables commissioned new LV cable facilities at Satna, apart from completing capacity expansion of the wires/flexible cable facility at the Goa plant. This will serve as a key catalyst for growth in revenue from operations in the large-volume LV and wire/flexible cable market, according a company release.

Order book

The pending order book of Universal Cables, as of March 31, 2026, stood at around Rs.3,025 crore, including export orders amounting to some Rs.495 crore. In addition, export orders of over Rs.300 crore are currently in the pipeline.

HTLS conductors

It may be recalled that in February 2026, Universal Cables had announced its plans of adding high performance conductors to its product portfolio. To this effect, the company has entered into a manufacturing agreement with US-based TS Conductor Corp for manufacture and sale of high-temperature low sag (HTLS) wherein TS would be supply the core, jointing and associated accessories, apart from guidance for installation. The HTLS conductors are proposed to be manufactured at the Satna facility in Madhya Pradesh.
