Wirepas, the Finnish company behind the world’s largest wireless mesh networks, has crossed 12 million smart electricity meters connected in India, cementing its position as the country’s most widely adopted dedicated smart meter connectivity with a 20 per cent market share.
India leads
Wirepas announced its first million connected meters in December 2023. By early 2025 that had grown to five million. Ten million followed before the end of the year. Now, past 12 million, India is home to Wirepas’ largest deployment anywhere in the world, making India not just a market for the company but the centre of gravity of its business.
RF mesh network
In a Wirepas RF mesh network, the meters themselves form the network. Every meter acts as both a transmitter and a receiver, so there are no gateways to install, no SIM cards inside, and no dependence on cellular coverage that thins out precisely where India needs metering most. The network heals itself when connections drop and grows stronger with every meter added, delivering data reliably from dense urban high rises to remote rural villages, backed by a guaranteed 99.9 percent SLA.

Partner ecosystem
The milestone rests on deployments under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, spanning 12 states, and a partner ecosystem that includes Polaris, HPL, Bosch, Kimbal, BCITS and AEW. Wirepas’ standards based platform complies with DLMS and IS15959 requirements, integrates with any Head End System through standardised APIs.
