ANDRITZ wins mandate for hydropower project in Nepal

International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd, relating to the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project in Nepal.

The contract involves complete hydromechanical and electromechanical works of the 216-mw run-of-the-river hydropower plant, located on Trishuli river in the Rasuwa district of the hilly nation. Korea-based Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Korea is the EPC contractor for this project.

The works will be undertaken by ANDRITZ’s Indian subsidiary with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Mandideep (near Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh) and Prithla (near Faridabad, Haryana).

 

Scope of works

The scope under the hydromechanical works includes design, engineering, manufacturing, transportation, installation, testing and commissioning of radial gates, vertical gates, hoists, stop logs and penstocks.

The electro-mechanical works scope consists of basic and detailed design, turbine and generator components, complete electrical power systems, balance of plant and automation, installation and commission of these equipment.

 

The project will be completed under a time schedule of 60 months from contract effectiveness.

Impact on Nepal

The Upper Trishuli-1 project is expected to generate up to 1,456 GWh of electricity a year and increase the country’s total power generation by 20 per cent. The project owner is Nepal Water & Energy Development Company Pvt. Ltd., while

 

Large-sized contract

This contract will be the first large sized project for ANDRITZ with complete hydromechanical works along with electro-mechanical scope in Nepal, the first being the supply of complete electro-mechanical works for Nepal’s largest state owned project namely Upper Tamakoshi HEP, which was awarded in 2012. By securing this prestigious contract, ANDRITZ continues to retain its leading position as a preferred water-to-wiretechnology provider in the hydropower market in Nepal.
