BHEL wins supercritical power equipment EPC orders in Madhya Pradesh

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has announced the winning of two large EPC orders related to supercritical power equipment in Madhya Pradesh.
In a regulatory filing, BHEL said that Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Ltd (MPPGCL) has issued award notifications for two EPC packages relating to:
- Amarkantak (Unit-6): 1×660-MW
- Satpura (Unit-12): 1×660-MW
The orders cover EPC works including supply of equipment, erection & commissioning, and civil works, BHEL said.
The combined value of the two orders, excluding taxes, is in the range of Rs.13,000 crore to Rs.15,000 crore, the Central PSU engineering firm said.
Order completion is scheduled for within 57 months from the notification of award.
According to information available from independent sources, MPPGCL’s Amarkantak thermal power station (ATPS), located in Betul district, originally had 11 generation units (Units 1 to 5 of 62.5-MW each; Unit 6 of 200 MW; Units 7, 8 and 9 of 210 MW each; Units 10 and 11 of 250 MW) with combined nameplate capacity of 1642.5 MW.
Between the period January 2014 and September 2024, the first nine generation units were progressively decommissioned, leaving only Units 10 and 11, with combined capacity of 500 MW, currently functional.
The order placed on BHEL seeks to build Unit-12 of 660 MW, which would be a replacement of Units 1 to 5 of capacity 62.5 MW each.
