Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan takes over as new CMD of PGCIL

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has announced the appointment of Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as its new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), effective April 1, 2026.

The term of appointment will be from April 1, 2026 till the date of his superannuation, which is July 31, 2029, or until further orders, a communication from PGCIL said. Immediately prior to his appointment, Vamsi held the post of Director (Projects), PGCIL.

Vamsi succeeds Ravindra Kumar Tyagi whose tenure ended on March 31, 2026, upon attaining superannuation.

 

Bio profile

An accomplished engineering professional, Vamsi is a graduate in Engineering and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Planning & Project Management along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Management Development Institute (MDI, Gurugram). He has further reinforced his leadership credentials through the Harvard Manage Mentor (HMM) Program and advanced management programmes at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad.

With over 33 years of rich and diverse experience in the power transmission and telecom sectors, Vamsi has held several key leadership, policy-making, and strategic roles at both regional and corporate level in PGCIL. His professional expertise spans a wide range of critical business domains, including projects, procurement, commercial, regulatory affairs, asset management, and telecom.

Vamsi was a founding member of PGCILI’s Regulatory Cell, where his deep understanding of the power sector’s regulatory framework played a critical role in shaping the organization’s regulatory strategy. As a key architect of PGCIL’s entry into competitive bidding, he was instrumental in successfully positioning the company in the evolving competitive power transmission market.

During his tenure as CEO, POWERGRID Teleservices Ltd, Vamsi led the expansion of the company’s telecom business and was instrumental in initiating PGCIL’s first Data Centre project, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s digital journey. In his tenure as Director (Projects), PGCIL achieved several milestones including highest ever Capitalisation and capex, the PGCIL communication added.
