Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd (GIPCL) has approved the award of an EPC contract for a pooling substation to KEC International Ltd.

In a stock exchange filing, GIPCL said that company’s board of directors, at its meeting held on September 9, 2022, approved the award of EPC contract, valued at around Rs.244 crore, to KEC International Ltd.

The pooling substation 400/33kV, 1200 mw (PSS-1, Phase-I and Phase-II of 600 mw, each) will be associated with GIPCL’s upcoming solar/wind/hybrid renewable energy park of 2,375 mw at Great Rann of Kutch area in Gujarat.

The scope of the contract covers design, engineering, supply & procurement, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of the pooling station.

While the filing did not disclose any further details, it is learnt from official tender documents that the pooling substation is expected to come in two phases – to be completed within 14 and 20 months, respectively, from the date of issue of letter of intent.

Four phases

It is reliably learnt that GIPCL is setting up the 2,375 mw renewable energy park in four phases, with full commissioning planned for July 2026.

In the first phase 600 mw is envisaged with targeted completion in November 2023. Phase-II and Phase-III with capacity of 600 mw each are expected to commission by February 2024 and July 2025, respectively. In the fourth and final phase, 575 mw of capacity has been envisaged taking the total capacity to 2,375 mw, by July 2026.
