MPPTCL energizes 50 MVA power transformer in record time

Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL or MP Transco) has energized a 50 MVA power transformer in record time of 15 days.

In a release, MPPTCL said that the utility, demonstrating technical excellence, precise planning, and outstanding coordination, has accomplished an exemplary task by completing the transportation, installation, comprehensive technical testing, and energization of a new 50 MVA power transformer in a record time of about 15 days.

Usually takes a month

Under normal circumstances, after a power transformer reaches the site, its erection, testing, oil filtration, and energization usually take a month or more. However, considering the priority of restoring normal power supply in the state’s important Malanpur Industrial Area, MPPTCL successfully completed this technically complex, risky, and challenging task in the minimum possible time under the able guidance of Chief Engineer (Testing & Communication) Amar Kirti Saxena, the release said.

This is a rare achievement in the history of MP Transco, where the sensitive task of removing the old failed transformer and safely transporting, installing, carrying out all necessary technical tests, and energizing a new higher-capacity power transformer was accomplished within approximately 15 days.

Minimum possible time

MP Transco’s Managing Director, Sunil Tiwari, stated that at the 220kV Malanpur (Bhind) substation, a new 50 MVA power transformer was transported, installed, and energized in the minimum possible time to replace the 40 MVA transformer that failed due to technical reasons on December 19, 2025. He explained that the entire process of dismantling, transportation, site preparation, erection, oil filtration, commissioning, and testing of a power transformer is highly technical, time-consuming, and safety-sensitive.

Keeping in mind the inconvenience being faced by consumers in the Malanpur Industrial area, experienced superintending engineers deputed from various parts of the state, along with local technical teams, worked continuously for 15 days on a 24×7 basis. With high technical competence, vigilance, and coordination, they successfully completed this challenge, the release noted.

Team congratulated

Congratulating the team on the energization of the new power transformer at the Malanpur substation in record time, Madhya Pradesh’s Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar said that this achievement of MP Transco is strong evidence of its technical capability, well-planned strategy, and teamwork. It proves that with commitment and expertise, even tasks that appear impossible can be accomplished, the release added.
