State power utility Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has awarded smart metering contracts worth over Rs.20,000 crore to four entities, it is reliably learnt.

According to reliable media reports, MSEDCL has awarded smart metering contracts to four entities, envisaging an aggregate rollout of over 1.72 crore meters.

These contracts appear to have been placed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme  (RDSS) but there is no confirmation to this effect.

The winners include Adani Group (represented by Adani Energy Solutions Ltd), NCC Ltd, Genus Power & Infrastructures Ltd and MonteCarlo Ltd.

The results, based on available information, are tabulated below:

According to information available with T&D India, a total of 2.36 crore smart meters have been sanctioned in Maharashtra under RDSS. As of July 14, 2023, contracts for around 10.76 lakh smart meters were awarded, it is learnt.

In October 2022, Adani Transmission Ltd (now known as Adani Energy Solutions Ltd) announced that it has emerged as the successful bidder in the BEST Undertaking’s tender for appointment of advanced metering infrastructure service provider (AMISP). AESL’s Distribution Platform shall implement the smart metering project on Design-Build-Finance-Own-Operate-Transfer (DBFOOT) basis.

As a part of mandate won, 10.80 lakh smart meters and related Communication & Cloud infrastructure will be installed over a period of 30 months and maintained for the following 90 months. The project shall cover end-to-end smart metering for distribution infrastructure and end consumers of BEST Undertaking, enabling complete energy accounting with zero manual intervention.
