SPML Infra Ltd has announced the completion of Phase-I of its upcoming battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

In a release, SPML Infra said that its BESS manufacturing facility at SUPA MIDC near Pune, Maharashtra, has completed Phase-I comprising an assembly line of 2.5 GWh. Certifications from IEC/UL are currently underway for battery packs to be supplied against the company’s order from NTPC.  SPML is targeting billing against the NTPC contract to begin in Q4FY27, subject to necessary approvals, the release noted.

The Pune facility is planned to be scaled up to 5 GWh, together with an annual container manufacturing capacity of 600 units, by H1FY28 (around September 2027).

It may be recalled that in May this year, SPML Infra announced that it had secured a Rs.1,128-crore EPC contract to develop a 1-GWh BESS at NTPC’s Barauni thermal power plant in Bihar. (Read tndindia.com story dated May 6, 2026)

New orders in Q1FY27

SPML Infra secured Rs.1,293 crore of new orders during Q1FY27, further strengthening its medium-term revenue visibility. The company’s total order book stands at approximately Rs.5,094 crore. Importantly, the quality of the order book has improved significantly, with only approximately Rs.1,251 crore relating to legacy projects. The balance predominantly comprises newer projects carrying expected operating margins of 10 per cent or higher, the release said.

Profitable growth

According to Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director, SPML Infra Ltd, “Our water and power infrastructure businesses continue to drive execution, while our BESS manufacturing platform is progressing towards revenue contribution. With a Rs.5,094 crore order book, continued order inflows and an improving business mix, we remain focused on disciplined execution and profitable growth.”
