Tata Power has announced the successful commissioning of all EHV lines and substations associated with the South East UP Power Transmission Company Ltd (SEUPPTCL) intrastate transmission project in Uttar Pradesh.
In a release, Tata Power said that it has commissioned two 400kV lines – Tanda-Gonda and Gonda-Basti – together spanning 154 ckm, associated with the SEUPPTCL project. With this, all the EHV lines and substations under the project stand commissioned.
The network now comprises three 765kV lines aggregating 951 ckm, fourteen 400kV lines totaling 566 ckm, and three 765/400kV substations with combined transformation capacity of 3,460 MVA.
SEUPPTCL is part of Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Limited, a joint venture led by Tata Power along with ICICI Bank and global investors. The project was acquired as part of the resolution of stressed assets in the power sector.
With the completion of these elements the overall intrastate transmission project housed under SEUPPTCL now stands fully commissioned.
The commissioning of four transmission lines — 765kV SC Mainpuri–Bara, 765kV SC Mainpuri–Unnao, 400kV DC Tanda–Gonda and 400kV DC Gonda–Basti — will enable safe and reliable evacuation of over 4,000 MW of thermal power generated within Uttar Pradesh. The project will support the state’s growing electricity demand while enhancing grid stability and ensuring long-term energy security, the release said. [DC = double circuit; SC = single circuit]
The commissioning of 765kV Mainpuri–Bara SC line (380 ckm), 765kV Mainpuri–Unnao SC line (194 Ckm), 400kV Tanda–Gonda and 400kV Gonda–Basti double circuit spanning 154 ckm involved extensive planning and execution.
The project execution involved:
The successful completion of these projects marks a significant step in strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s transmission infrastructure and ensuring reliable and efficient power supply across the region.
With the commissioning of these 765kV and 400kV corridors (17 in number and together spanning 1,517 ckm), Tata Power’s total operational transmission network has expanded to 5,466 ckm, with an additional 1,863 ckm currently under construction. This growing portfolio highlights the company’s strengthening role in building and modernising India’s high-voltage transmission backbone—at a time when robust grid capacity is essential to sustaining the country’s economic growth, the release said.
It may be recalled that two 765kV transmission lines associated with the SEUPPTCL project – Mainpuri-Bara and Mainpuri-Unnao – were commissioned in January 2026, as reported by tndindia.com on January 30, 2026.
