Torrent Power Ltd incurred capital expenditure of over Rs.2,000 crore across its power transmission & distribution business, during FY26.

At an investor conference, the senior management of Torrent Power said that during FY26 (April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026), capex of around Rs.1,650 crore was incurred on the company’s power distribution business – both licensed and franchised. In the power transmission business, the capex figure was around Rs.550 crore.

Power distribution

During FY26, Torrent Power enjoyed lower T&D losses in almost all its licensed and franchised areas. (See table). The overall losses in the licensed areas was just 2.33 per cent in FY26, according an investor presentation by Torrent Power.

Overall power purchase in FY26 stood at 32538 million (MU), about 1 per cent higher the corresponding level in FY25. In terms of volume of electricity, Torrent Power’s licensed business in Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (DNH&DD) is the biggest, accounting for over a third of the total electricity purchase in FY26.

In the Bhiwandi franchisee area, T&D losses dropped to their all-time low of around 9.1 per cent in FY26. When this distribution area was taken over by Torrent Power, in around 2006, such losses were at an unruly level of around 56 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Torrent Power management has indicated that the company would be incurring capex of around Rs.2,000 crore per year, over the next 4-5 years, in its licensed and franchised power distribution business.

Power transmission

In the power transmission business, Torrent Power’s FY26 capital expenditure was around Rs.550 crore. It may be noted that in the fourth quarter (Q4: January to March), Torrent Power commissioned an ISTS scheme associated with RE evacuation of RE power from Khavda in Gujarat.

The project, known as “Evacuation of 4.5 GW RE injection at Khavda PS under Phase II – Part D” was assigned to Torrent Power Grid Ltd (TPGL) under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) framework. TPGL is a 74:26 joint venture between Torrent Power and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.

This project involves putting up a LILO of the existing 400kV Pirana (PGCIL) – Pirana (Torrent Power) line at the Ahmedabad substation. The total LILO length line is about 240 ckm, involving a total of 174 tower locations.

Torrent Power is also implementing an ISTS-TBCB project housed under “Solapur Power Transmission Ltd” and is currently under construction.

Officially termed as “Transmission system for evacuation of power from RE projects in Solapur (1,500 MW) in Maharashtra,” this project was originally scheduled to commission by March 2026 but is now expected to do so by July 2026, as per information released by Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
